The boys' track squad ran to a third-place finish in sectionals last evening, falling into 1st Pl., Avon and 2nd Pl., Plainfield, but advanced quite a few individuals to next week's regional finals at Lafayette Jefferson High School. The Dogs had one individual champion, David LaPerle, who lept over 13'0" in the pole vault competition, setting a personal record in the process. David has shown phenomenal progress this year and deserves all of his success due to the hours and hours of work that he and his coach Tony Heath put in over the summer and winter. It really shows what dedication by an athlete and coach can accomplish. There were also many Bulldogs who just missed out on an individual championship but did a great job to finish runner-up:

Latrelle Bandstra... 100 m dash
Jeremy Shupperd... 110 m and 300 m hurdles
Wyatt Rondot... 1600 m run
Justin Hays... 3200 m run
4 x 100 m relay team of Bandstra, Evan Anders, Keith Jones, and DeJoure Mercer

The junior varsity baseball team defeated Fishers last night 13-6.  Caleb Sampen got the win on the mound, throwing five innings allowing zero earned runs.  David LeClerc threw great in relief.  Offensively the Dogs were paced by Tyler Westrich, Tyler Hudson, Caleb Sampen, Nathan Haynes, Cody Gill, and Sam Comer.  Each player had a multiple hit night. The Dogs totaled 16 hits on the evening.  The Dogs are back in action tonight at home against Fishers.

The boys’ golf team improved their record to 10-2 with a victory over Tri-West 154 to 194. Meet medalist was Derek Hettmansperger who shot a one-under par 34. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Austin Winings, Alec Brown, and Tyler Corder each shot 40. Rounding out the team score was Austin Crouch and Jake Knapp each fired a 41.

The JV softball team won the Brownsburg Softball Invitational last night beating Southport 3-0 and Lebanon 9-5. In the first game against Southport the ladies started things off slow. Both teams were scoreless until the ladies picked it up in the bottom of the sixth inning.  With big hits from Kyrsten Wagoner, Lindsey Stahl, Kelsey Goad, and Candice Williams the ladies took the lead. With Kelli Duncan on the mound and tough defense behind her the ladies held Southport from scoring.  Kelli Duncan ended the game with five strikeouts.  In the championship game the ladies the ladies started off strong getting four runs in the first inning.  The ladies hit well the entire game.  Lebanon fought back in the fifth inning.  Heather Reed came up big to extend the lead with a huge homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Again with great plays from the defense and Kelli Duncan staying tough on the mound the bulldogs sealed the win.   The ladies had a wonderful season with a record 16-7. Great job ladies!!

The varsity girls' tennis team won their opening match of sectionals against Avon with a 4-1 score.  All of the Bulldogs gave great effort!  Katie Bullocke had a nice, steady win at one singles, Nicole Weisman played flawlessly at two singles, and Emily Doehrman did a great job with smart play at the 3 spot.  Our one doubles of Blake Stayrook and Shelby Hornback played especially tough in the first set and will carry that energy into Saturday's match.  Our two doubles team of Laura Smith and Yolandi Geldenhuis did a super job closing out the match with a huge comeback victory!  The Dogs play the Mooresville Pioneers on Saturday morning at 10:00 am.  Please come out and cheer for our lady netters!

Any track team member who has not received information about the track awards banquet should stop by Mr. Neylon's room (C 126) as soon as possible. In addition, any JV runner on the boys or girls teams who has not turned in his or her uniforms must do so immediately at practice or to Mr. Neylon.

Any boy or girl interested in running cross country next year should stop by Mr. Neylon's room (C126) to pick up information about summer conditioning and practices for next year.

Saturday, the boys golf team shot 322 and finished ninth of 18 teams in the Sollman Invitational at the Trophy Club golf course. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was the tournament medalist Austin Winings who finished with a five under-par 67. Rounding out the team’s score was Derek Hettmansperger with an 81, Austin Crouch shot 84, and Alec Brown carded a 90.

Tuesday night the varsity softball team celebrated its eight seniors in their game against Franklin Central.  Kirsten Bartlett, Sarah Callis, Chelsea Conover, Astrid Koose, Tori Martin, Katie Mingus, Alex Shipley, and Krystal Shirrell were honored for their time with the program.  Despite a particularly rough first inning which led to a 14-3 loss, Bartlett finished her last home game with three hits, including two doubles and all three RBIs.  Katie Mingus and Chelsea Conover also finished the game with a hit each.  Carlie Weaver did a nice job holding the offensive-powered Flashes to one run in three innings.  The girls will finish up their regular season at Decatur Central on Wednesday and the Crawfordsville Invitational on Saturday.

The JV softball team had an exciting when last night coming back and beating Franklin Central 10-8. Franklin Central got off to a great start getting eight runs in the first three innings.  However, the ladies fought hard and inched their way back into the game.  In the fifth inning the ladies took the lead by one.  Despite having a tough night on the mound Lindsey Stahl finished strong with three big strikeouts in the last two innings to seal the win.  Kyrsten Wagoner, Candice Williams, Natalie Kroll each had a double.  Kelsey Goad also had a great night getting two big hits.  Great job ladies!!!

SPORTS NEWS:

Frosh Baseball Schedule Change:
On March 8, 2012 Perry Meridian asked us to move our April 21st game to a DH on May 19th.
After try-outs P.M. determined that they would likely be playing a limited number of freshmen/C team games but they had to be careful that their players did not exceed the IHSAA maximum number of innings. So our game on 5/19 was tentative ... but we wanted to keep the game on the books in hopes that we could play them.  That is not the case. PM cannot field a team for games on 5/19 and we have now cancelled the event.  Please help us in spreading the word. No freshmen games this Saturday. We do still have games with Avon, Danville, Harrison and Fishers ... all confirmed.

The boys' track team turned in a very strong performance Friday evening in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Meet, placing seventh out of a very competitive field. Outstanding efforts were turned in by Wyatt Rondot and Elliott Shaw in the 1600 m run, both setting personal records to finish fifth and seventh, respectively. Chris Stowers also turned in a personal best in the shot put to finish seventh, while Justin Hays ran to yet another PR in the 3200 m run and placed eighth. Other Bulldogs who reached the podium were:  Ben Hendricks, Latrelle Bandstra, John Dotlich, Jeremy Shupperd, Taylor Hemmert and David LaPerle.

The varsity baseball team brought home an exciting victory last night over HCC conference foe Zionsville by the score of 5-4.  The Dogs jumped up to an early lead of 1-0 before quickly falling behind 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning.  The score stayed knotted up until an exciting seventh inning.  In the top of the inning senior Logan Coughlin led off with a stand-up triple.  He was brought in by senior Jeremy Jones with a single up the middle.  Isaac Sampen and Bobby Carr went back-to-back singles to load the bases when Sam Sampen came up and hustled out a ground ball to nullify a double-play attempt and tie the game at 3-3.  Senior David Oliger then hit a single back up the middle to score Isaac Sampen to take the lead and Mike Hartnagel drove in Sam Sampen to make the score 5-3.  Jordan Deal came back out to finish what he started and after an amazing play by senior second baseman, Leo Tobasco, to stop the Eagles scoring threat. Deal, then, popped the last guy out and the Dogs won 5-4.  Jordan Deal pitched a complete game for the victory!  The Bulldogs are in action at home tonight against Zionsville and it will be the annual Strikeout Cancer game.  First pitch at 5:30pm.

The varsity girls' tennis team won a 3-2 decision over the Ben Davis Giants last night.  Nicole Weisman had a nice victory with very consistent play at the two singles spot, and Katie Suiter followed a great game plan to win at number three singles.  The number two doubles team of Laura Smith and Yolandi Geldenhuis clinched the match for the team in straight sets.

The JV tennis squad beat the Giants 5-3 and finished off the season with four wins in a row to bring their win-loss record to 9-7 with two ties. Cayley Young and Shelby Stainfield led off the night with terrific wins in singles.  Kelsey Henry and Delaney Krug paired up for a great win at number one doubles.  Doubles partners Morgan Graham and Pooja Patel did not allow a single game on the board for their opponents, and Brooke Jaco and Ashley Graham were equally stingy as they refused to give up a game either! The JV girls put together a fine effort down the stretch to end the season in strong form! The varsity team will continue play in the sectionals at home this week.  The Bulldogs will meet Avon on Thursday at 4:30.

The freshman Bulldog softball team lost last night to Tri-West 10-9. Kelsey Reinhardt had a pair of doubles; Karly Dickison had three hits including a double. Chandler Tillotson and Erin Bartlett had a pair of hits. Gabby Hall added a double. Good Luck tonight against Roncalli.

The junior varsity baseball team was defeated last night by Zionsville by a score of 10-5.  Tyler Houston continued his hot hitting adding three hits for the Dogs. Kyle Yeager and Hunter Leum also chipped in with multiple hit games.  The JV team is back in action tonight at home against Zionsville.

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (5-14-12)
"Providing education-based athletics in Indiana."
The lyrics of a song I heard recently said "If you don't know where you're going, you might end up somewhere else."
What's in store for you this summer? Do you know what you are going to do with your spare time? Do you have a plan to be productive with a summer job?
Don't get me wrong, it's always nice to have a week or two away from the constant responsibility of the classroom and your favorite sport. Everyone needs that rest from time to time.
However, be sure to keep yourself in good physical shape and more importantly, be sure to be that positive role model in your community that teachers, coaches, and parents will be proud of!

Last Friday evening the freshman softball team fought hard to defeat Carmel, but came up short, losing 2-4. Carmel is a great hitting team and Karly Dickison held them to only six hits on the night. Chandler Tillotson, Brooklyn Remke, Erin Bartlett and Alyssia Leavell all contributed hits and RBIs. Remke also had a couple great saves on first base to get the outs.  Good game girls!!

The freshman baseball team struggled to find the offense Friday night as Decatur Central defeated the Dogs 4-3. Matt Rollyson had another strong performance on the mound, but it wasn't enough following the Hawks winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Offensively, Brooks Bireley was the lone Bulldog to muster a RBI, with his two RBI single in the top half of the sixth.

Saturday the freshman baseball team got back to their winning ways sweeping a doubleheader against the North Montgomery Chargers. In game one Caleb Sampen threw his second no-hitter of the season. Sampen struck out 11 Charger batters, and didn't allow a single player to reach second base. Offensively the Dogs scored 12 runs, and were led by Ryan Robbins, who had five RBIs. In game two, Matthew Hammerle took advantage of his first start on the mound by giving up only three hits, striking out seven batters, and picking up the win. Offensively the Bulldogs were led by Jacson McGowan, Brooke Bireley, and Blake Roberts, each knocking in two runs on the day. The Dogs return to action Tuesday night at conference rival Avon.

The junior varsity baseball team won the Brownsburg Invitational over the weekend, defeating Avon and Lebanon.  In the first game the Dogs defeated Avon 4-2.  Tyler Houston was the winning pitcher throwing seven innings allowing five hits and striking out six.  Houston also led the Dogs offensively contributing three hits and two RBIs.  Haden Shipman, Tyler Westrich, and Hunter Leum also had hits for the Dogs.  The Dogs then defeated Lebanon 11-0 in the championship game.  Dalton Carter was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit and striking out 10.  Tyler Houston continued his hot hitting adding three more hits, including a two run home run.  Tyler Westrich, Tyler Hudson, Garrett Isch, Austin Jones, and Cody Gill all added hits as well.  The Dogs are back in action on Monday.

The varsity girls' tennis team finished in sixth place in the HCC Tournament this weekend.  The Bulldogs had two girls named All-HCC, which is a huge accomplishment in our highly rated conference.  Senior Katie Bullock finished in third place at the number one singles position and was designated All-HCC for the second year in a row!  Sophomore Nicole Weisman finished fourth at the number two spot, also earning All-HCC honors!  The Dogs battled through three rounds of phenomenal tennis match-ups and represented BHS very well.  Both the varsity and JV will play at Ben Davis today at 4:30.  Then, they will compete in sectionals at HOME later this week.

The junior varsity baseball team defeated Lafayette Harrison last Thursday night 4-3.  Jacson McGowan got the win for the Bulldogs throwing six innings, allowing one run and striking out eight.  Caleb Sampen came in and closed the door in the seventh striking out two to get the save.  Offensively, Tyler Westrich and Haden Shipman each hit a solo home run.  Jacson McGowan and Trent Kabrich added an RBI a piece for the Dogs.
